Women for Women International helps survivors of war rebuild their lives. When war and insecurity take hold, women bear the heaviest burden of violence, poverty andinequality. Gender norms restrict women’s access to education and economic resources, excludes them from decision-making, and exposes them to many forms of violence and abuse. Women are the targets of systematic rape and sexual violence, which is used as a weapon to terrorise and destroy communities. Many who rebuild their lives become sole breadwinners after the loss of husbands and male relatives, and are struggling against the odds to both care and provide for their families.

Lilac & White sponsor 4 women who attend a 12 month programme to learn skills that are proven to earn a future income to support their families. These skills include things like tailoring, brickmaking or agriculture as well as business skills like book-keeping and budgeting.

With access to income and economic security, women are more likely to invest in health,education, and nutrition for their children and families –the building blocks of thriving societies.
